Wildlife Center of Virginia October Open Houses - Here’s your chance to peek behind the scenes at one of the nation’s leading wildlife hospitals. The Wildlife Center of Virginia in Waynesboro is hosting its October Open Houses, offering rare guided tours through the facility and ambassador animal enclosures. Guests will meet resident education animals like Buddy the Bald Eagle, Athena the Barred Owl, and Maggie the Peregrine Falcon, while learning about the Center’s vital rehabilitation work.

Attendance is free but requires reservations, and remaining October sessions are filling fast—only a few weekday evening spots remain.

JackFest Returns to Foxfield - JackFest is back this year. A family-friendly festival and fundraiser at Foxfield benefiting the Ronald McDonald House of Charlottesville and UVA Children’s Hospital childhood cancer programs.

Held Sunday, October 26, 2025 from noon to 4 p.m., JackFest combines community spirit with fun for all ages from kids’ running races, bounce houses, and arts & crafts to food trucks and local wine and beer for adults. Admission is free, and everyone’s invited to join in.

This annual event, inspired by the bravest kids in our community, helps families stay close while their children receive critical care. Each $1,000 raised supports about eight nights for a family at the Ronald McDonald House.

Albemarle County Board to Consider Final Adoption of AC44 Comprehensive Plan - Albemarle County’s Board of Supervisors will hold a public hearing tonight, to consider the final adoption of the AC44 Comprehensive Plan—the County’s long-term vision and policy framework guiding growth, development, and quality of life through 2044.

The AC44 process began in 2021 and has included extensive public engagement, Planning Commission review, and multiple Board work sessions. The final draft incorporates community feedback and Board input gathered over the past year.

A key focus of this meeting will be finalizing language around land swap proposals and development area boundary changes. The latest draft adds clarification on how the County may assess potential boundary adjustments, including criteria for evaluating both underperforming areas and land considered for addition to development zones.

If adopted, AC44 will take effect January 1, 2026, serving as the foundation for Albemarle County’s future planning decisions.
